Jacob Greter (family surname changed to Crater to early to mid-1800s) was the youngest of three known children of Hans Jacob (went by Jacob) Greter (c1708-1788) and his second wife, the widow Maria (went by Mary or Catherine) Catharina Heren Moll (1722-1793) on 11 Apr 1758 at Oley Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Hans Jacob was first married to the widow Maria Barbara Dreher Hirt/Hordt (1703-1757) on 07 Nov 1738 at Moden Creek Lutheran Church in Pennsylvania, with whom he had three known children. Hans Jacob Greter reportedly came to America in 1731.

Jacob married Maria (went by Mary) Frey (1766 (or 1765?)-1837) on 21 Feb 1786 at Salem, Surry (then Stokes, then Forsyth) County, North Carolina. Jacob and Mary were the parents of nine known children, seven girls and two boys; all of whom lived to maturity, namely:

1. Elisabeth Greter/Crater Rominger (1787-1870)

2. Rebecca Greter/Crater Rominger (1789-1862)

It is not known where the eighth child Maria (went by Mary or Polly) Catherine Greter Leinbach is buried. She married John Jonas (went by Jonas) Leinbach (1805-1880) and had six known children. The parents were living at Oldtown Township, Forsyth County, North Carolina in 1860. In 1870 and 1880 Jonas was a widower, living at Oldtown Township. Does anyone known when Mary/Polly died or where she is buried?
