Individual Note

Notes for LEWIS MORRIS FRY:

Lewis was a share crop farmer in Forsyth Co, NC in the 1850's. One of his sons was given the duty of protecting the horses and corn crop, because slaves were stealing corn to feed their stock. The son shot and killed the slave, and when Lewis heard about it, he loaded his household and left that night. It was the start of a two year trek to Denton County, Texas. He farmed and ran a store in Denton. According to the Record of Appointment of Postmasters 1832-9-30, 1971, he also served as postmaster in Denton County. He also had a small herd of sheep. A dog he had to gather the sheep was stolen, and several days later the dog returned with a large flock of sheep that it had gathered,12
